A student camp on modern physics begins on June 9 at RPTU
At the “MINT-EC Camp” on June 9 and 10, 2026, at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern, twenty selected 11th- and 12th-grade students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of physics, gain insights into research, learn about the university’s academic programs and daily campus life, and conduct experiments themselves. The camp is organized by the Department of Physics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern in collaboration with the PfalzMetall Foundation, the national MINT-EC school network, and the Hohenstaufen Gymnasium Kaiserslautern (HSG).
The MINT-EC Camp focuses on modern physics through lectures and hands-on seminars. The opening lecture will cover oscillations, a fundamental concept in physics. Afterward, physicists from RPTU will introduce the students to many other facets of modern physics. Students can expand their knowledge during a lecture on complex numbers. Hands-on participation is encouraged in the workshops on “3D Microprinting with Light,” “Spectroscopy – What Colors Does Life Have?” and “From Silicon Wafer to Chip.” In these sessions, participants will learn about working in a physics lab, particularly the highly sensitive work required in a cleanroom.
Beyond the hands-on learning, students will also receive first-hand information about studying physics at RPTU. At the evening event on Tuesday, there will be an opportunity to enjoy pizza together with students .
