Control of single particles and of individual quantum systems lies at the heart of both fundamental understanding of complex quantum effects and applications in emerging quantum technologies. Our research group pursues basic research aiming at obtaining insight into dynamics and properties of single microscopic particles and individual quantum systems. We particularly focus on the crossover between classical and quantum physics on the one hand, and the crossover between single quantum systems and quantum many-body systems on the other hand. A main research question is how quantum systems can be locally probed and controlled.
