Research at the Department of Physics

International top-level research - from fundamentals to applications

As the Department of Physics at the RPTU in Kaiserslautern, we are helping to shape the world of tomorrow. We contribute to answering the big questions of our time and develop solutions for the future.

Our research focuses on the fields of solid state physics/spin physics and optical technologies/quantum optics. In almost all working groups, optics is used either as an object of scientific interest or as a method of investigation. Basic and application-oriented research is carried out intensively by both our experimental and theoretical working groups. The main research areas are quantum optics and technologies, many-body systems, spin physics, spintronics and magnonics, laser physics, integrated optics and optoelectronics, as well as surface physics, nanophysics and biophysics.

Our partners are leading experts and institutions from Germany and abroad.

We communicate our knowledge to society. Our researchers take a holistic approach to complex challenges: They conduct basic research and bring innovative solutions into practice.

Our employees form the basis for our top-level research. We support them at every stage of their scientific development. Diversity, equal opportunities and the compatibility of career and family are a matter of course for us.
