Physics in Kaiserslautern stands for teaching the basics for tomorrow's technical innovations. We combine excellent research with innovative teaching.
The Department of Physics offers a portfolio of modern and well-structured degree programmes. In addition to an excellent mentoring ratio between lecturers and students, all degree programmes are characterised by the application of innovative teaching-learning methods and the latest media. Thus, students can not only calculate theoretical exercises during their first semester, but also compare theory with smartphone- and tablet-based experiments. In physical internships for beginners, they also experiment with intelligent data glasses (so-called smart glasses such as Microsoft HoloLens) and thus learn at an early stage how to deal with and assess future technologies. Even in advanced courses, students are provided with individual feedback options through voting tools even during lectures attended by more students. Through the new teaching and learning formats used in the Physics Department, students are provided with a demonstrably greater understanding of physics than in traditional formats and are thus optimally prepared for the demands of future professions.
In the multimedia distance learning course "Early Entrance to Physics Studies" (FiPS), students can start their physics studies already before completing their higher education entrance qualification [Abitur]. On-campus studies can then be completed in a shorter period of time. Further information is available at www.fernstudium-physik.de.
In addition to our excellent teaching, there are many other reasons why you should study in Kaiserslautern!
