Biophysics
The motto of Biophysics at the Department of Physics is "Physics Meets Life Science". Biophysics is an interdisciplinary science that deals with the application of physical and physical-chemical methods to research elementary and complex processes in living nature. Studying biophysics is ideal for those of you who are interested in physics as well as biology and chemistry. The interdisciplinary Bachelor's/Master's degree program offers a unique education in the physical, chemical and biological foundations of biophysics. The program is designed in such a way that graduates not only find a perspective in biophysical occupational fields, but also in physical, chemical or biological-pharmacological fields.
The Bachelor's degree program provides students with specialist skills in the fundamentals of mathematics, physics (mechanics, heat, electromagnetism, optics, quantum physics), chemistry (organics, inorganics, physical chemistry, biochemistry), biology (animal physiology, plant physiology, genetics, cell biology) and biophysics. Teamwork and practice-oriented research are introduced in corresponding practical courses and project work. With the help of special biophysics courses, overarching, specific biophysical technical and methodological skills are taught. A biophysics seminar is part of learning scientific presentations and associated discussions. The Bachelor's degree is completed with the Bachelor's thesis, which can be carried out in the research groups at RPTU. The subsequent Master's program offers the opportunity to acquire in-depth skills in the fields of biophotonics, medical biophysics, molecular biophysics and technical biophysics.
Our students are not only able to solve subject-specific problems, they also learn to think and act in an interdisciplinary way right from the start of their Bachelor's degree. This gives them excellent prospects on the job market in a rapidly changing professional world, not only in biophysical professions, but also in physical, chemical or biological-pharmacological fields.
