Physics teacher training

The Didactics of Physics offers the teacher training course for grammar schools, Realschulen Plus and vocational schools. For every teacher training course, subject-specific didactic training is a link between subject-specific and pedagogical university teacher training.

With us, you will receive a solid, comprehensive scientific education in combination with the acquisition of sound didactic knowledge, which will be applied and put into practice in the school internships that accompany your studies. We will show you how you, as a future teacher, can impart physics knowledge in a reflective and lively way in order to make physics understandable as a universal tool.

Your studies begin with the teaching-related Bachelor's degree course. At the beginning, you only decide on the subject combination; you only have to decide on the type of school in the third year. The Bachelor's degree is followed by the corresponding Master's degree course for teaching at grammar schools, Realschulen plus or BBS.

A double degree (B.Sc. and B.Ed./M.Ed. degree) is also possible. If you would like to do this, you should contact the Student Advisory Service after the first semester at the latest.

Courses for physics teacher training

In addition to the regular physics courses that students on other (physics) degree programs also attend, the physics teacher training program also includes courses that are offered by the didactics of physics department specifically for teacher training students. In the  study plan this applies to courses from all four subject areas (experimental physics, theoretical physics, practical courses, didactics).

Please note: All courses in physics teacher training are offered either only in the winter semester or only in the summer semester and prior registration via the KIS is required for participation in the courses in order to coordinate the dates. All current information on the individual courses can also be found there.

Details of the courses in the Master's degree program

Depending on the type of school chosen, different courses must be attended in the Master's degree program. You can find detailed information on this in the respective modul manuals.

  • Master Teacher Training Realschule+: All courses listed in the study plan are mandatory.
  • Master Teacher Training Grammar School: As part of the module "Gebietsübergreifende Konzepte und Anwendungen" students can choose between "Angewandte und technische Physik", or "Bereichsfach Naturwissenschaften 1" with "Bereichsfach Naturwissenschaften 2a", or "Bereichsfach Naturwissenschaften 1" with "Bereichsfach Naturwissenschaften 2b". Only one of these three options must be chosen. The additional courses in the study plan are mandatory.
  • Master Teacher Training Vocational School: In contrast to the teacher training courses for other types of schools, the courses in "Bereichsfach Naturwissenschaften (1/2a/2b)" are not mandatory.

Further information

Further information for teacher training students is provided by the Centre for Teacher Training. In addition, every student should familiarise themselves with the module handbook and the examination regulations for their own degree programme.
