Plasma ashing is used to purge samples and wafers. For this, plasma is generated inside a vacuum chamber, using monoatomic substances (oxygen/air/argon). Channeling the plasma at the samples will result in a reaction with the organic soiling, combining them to ash, which could  removed with a vacuum pump.
