Arrival by train

Leaving the train station, you take either a taxi or a bus to the university.

  • Taxis are waiting directly in front of the train station (5-10 min car ride to the university). Tell the driver to let you off next to "the tower".
  • The bus stop is located also in front of the train station, across the road. Buses (Line 105) are leaving to the university every 30 minutes (15 min bus ride to the university). Take the bus going direction "Uniwohngebiet/Universität" and leave at the stop "Uni Ost".

Go downhill and after approx. 50 meters you will see buildings 48 and 46 on the lefthandside. Turn left and you will reach the entrance of building 46, where you can find our laboratories two floors up from the entrance level.

Arrival at Frankfurt International Airport

Getting to Kaiserslautern by train from Frankfurt Airport:

There are two railway stations at Frankfurt Airport - long-distance (Fernbahnhof) and regional (Regionalbahnhof). Follow the signs to the long-distance railway station located at Terminal 1.

  • Terminal 1 arrivals:
The long-distance railway station is at the AIRail Terminal, in walking distance (5-10 min) from Terminal 1. From the departure level of Terminal 1 the "Fernbahnhof" signs will lead you one level further up to a bridge-type covered walk-way (with two rectangular bends along the way) through which you then reach a glass-dome area above the tracks. Trains depart from platforms 4 to 7. Recently, the guided path has been changed. The signs lead you first downwards, past the access to the parking structure and up an escalator. Simply watch for the sign "Fernbahnhof". The other access to the railway station is still possible and preferred by some of us.
  • Terminal 2 arrivals:
When you arrive at Terminal 2 (also called Segments D and E) you have to transfer by a clearly marked train system (Sky Line) to Terminal 1. This service to Terminal 1 runs at 2-minute intervals. You reach Terminal 1 at the departure level in Segment B. From here follow instructions for Terminal 1 arrivals.

Rail Tickets:
The Travel Center (Reisezentrum; in the alley to the glass-dome area) at the long-distance station provides travel information and sells tickets. Buy a ticket to Kaiserslautern via Mannheim (approx. 30 EURO, 2nd class, one way). Mannheim is the first stop after the Airport station (30 minutes). In Mannheim you change trains to Kaiserslautern (direction Saarbrücken). Depending on the type of train (ICE, IC/EC, RE or S-Bahn), it will take 40-60 min from Mannheim to Kaiserslautern.
